Bike riding: Be seen, be safe

On Behalf of | May 18, 2022 | Car Accidents |

Biking is a great way to get around, whether commuting to work or just out for a leisurely Sunday ride. However, it’s essential to be safe when biking on the road.

That means being seen by motorists and following the rules of the road.

Improve your biking safety with these tips

Here are some tips for staying safe while riding your bike:

  • Wear bright colors, such as yellow or orange, to be easily seen. Reflective tape on your clothes or bike will also help you stand out in low-light conditions.
  • Use a headlight and taillight for visibility at night. Aim your headlights to illuminate the road ahead without blinding oncoming traffic. Taillights should be visible from behind and to the sides so that drivers can see the rider even when they are in a blind spot.
  • Ride on the right side of the road, in the same direction as traffic. This will help you be more visible to drivers and decrease the chance of an accident.
  • Obey all traffic signs and signals, which means coming to a complete stop at stop signs and red lights, and yielding to pedestrians when appropriate. It’s also important to ride in the same direction as traffic and use hand signals to indicate stops and turns.
  • Use hand signals to indicate turns or stops to let other cyclists and drivers know what you’re doing and help them avoid an accident.
  • Always wear a helmet to protect your head in case of a fall or collision.

Riding a bike is not only great for the environment, but it’s also a fun way to get some exercise and spend time with your family. However, it’s important to stay safe while biking by following the rules of the road and using proper safety gear. By doing so, you can keep yourself safer.
